Our Troop

Boy Scout Troop 75 in Los Altos, CA was founded in 1964 as a parent-chartered troop.  It is affiliated with the Stanford District of the Pacific Skyline Council. Our friendly troop has about 35 scouts and is very active. We are large enough for critical mass but small enough so that the boys have an opportunity to get to know everyone!  We have at least one outing every month of the year including an annual summer camp. Our scouts enjoy outdoor activities like camping, hiking and backpacking. Our programs allow boys to have a lot of fun while they:

- Try new things
- Provide service to others
- Build self-confidence
- Reinforce ethical standards

A Boy - Led Troop

Troop 75 is a boy-led troop that operates by the patrol method. The Patrol Leader Council (PLC), with oversight from the Scoutmasters and Troop committee, plan and implement the troop’s activities including our weekly troop meetings, campouts, and annual summer camp. Our adult leaders are trained in scouting policies and safety.

Activities

Our youth leaders work with the scouts to plan many activities each year. In addition to camping, other activities have included:

Fishing and creek-walking
Biking – both road and mountain
Skiing in the Sierras
Backpacking: from beginning hikes to 7-day treks
Rappelling at Moaning Caverns
Cosmic bowling
Scouting for Food
Monterrey Bay Aquarium, Angel Island, California Academy of Sciences
Memorial day flag-placement
And Lots More!

Summer Camp:
Troop 75 attends summer camp every year. For the last several years many scouts have been attending a week-long camp at Oljato, located on Huntington Lake in Lakeshore, CA (Fresno County). Camp Oljato offers complete aquatics, nature, handicrafts and a shooting sports area in addition to a full dining hall.

High Adventure:
Every year we offer a few adventure outings for older scouts including:
A 50 + mile high-adventure backpacking trek at Philmont scout reservation in New Mexico
a 10-day Northern Tier canoe trip in Ontario, Canada

Rank Advancement

Our patrol leaders and older scouts work with the younger scouts on rank advancement all year long. There are more opportunities at summer camp and “Merit Badge Midways”. Boys are encouraged to earn merit badges individually or in groups. Many parents and outside experts become merit badge counselors. Troop 75 has three Court of Honor ceremonies per year to recognize our scouts’ achievements. Recently we have had a high percentage of scouts that become an Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting.
